People with information can call Crime Stoppers. There is someone monitoring this phone line 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This phone line does not have caller ID and conversations are not recorded. Once the information is given, the caller is assigned a code number. Do not share this code number with anyone! Callers can use their code numbers to check on the status of the case, add information, report other criminal activity and to collect their reward. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards up to $1,000.00 when an arrest is made as a result of the caller’s information.
Submitting your tip online to Crime Stoppers:There are some citizens who want to share information about a crime or give the location of a wanted fugitive but they don’t want to call. Decatur and Macon County Crime Stoppers offer these citizens a more convenient way of submitting tips. Citizens can now submit their tips by going online and giving the information. The process is completely secure and anonymous. It’s a very effective way of safely communicating with police in today's world. Click here to submit a tip online.
When you fill out the tip form and submit it, you will quickly receive a code number that is issued by the TIPSOFT Company. The Police Coordinator will only receive your code number and information you completed on the tip form. The Police Coordinator will never know where the information came from or who sent the information, thus keeping you completely anonymous. Any additional information that the tipster wants to share can be added at their convenience. Submitting your tip online allows the tipster to come back at any time to check the status of their case or find out if they are eligible for a reward.
Crime Stoppers is introducing its newest method of receiving tips from the community. You can now send a “Text Message” to Crime Stoppers. You simply text your tip to 274637 (CRIMES) and type “DPD333” at the beginning of your message followed by your tip information. When you send the text message you will receive an auto reply giving you your code number and a brief message. The Police Coordinator will only receive your code number and information that you provided. You can add additional information to a case by sending another text message.
One of the advantages of texting your tip to Crime Stoppers is that you and the Police Coordinator can engage in two-way dialogue. If at any time you want to stop all communications between you and the Police Coordinator all you have to do is text “STOP” to the number 274637 (CRIMES) and you cannot be replied to by Crime Stoppers.
